How do Swimming Pool Solar Covers Work?

What is a solar cover?

A solar cover, also referred to as a solar blanket, is a large sheet of u.v stabilised plastic that looks like bubble wrap but is specially formulated for the harsh pool environment.  It is typically cut to same shape as your swimming pool and floats on top of the water.

How does a solar cover work?
A solar cover allows cost-free solar energy to penetrate and heat the pool during warm daylight hours and and it insulates to reduce heat loss during the night.  It also helps to keep debris out of a pool and reduces water evaporation.  Less dirt and debris and less direct exposure to sunlight also help to lower your pool's chemical consumption.  Therefore you get a number of benefits from a solar cover; your pool is warmer, cleaner, consumes less water and less chemicals.
How long does a solar cover last?

Over time, your solar cover will slowly deteriorate due to its exposure to weather from above and chemicals from underneath.  Many covers only come with a 1-2 year warranty however because of the quality, our pool covers have a prorated 5 year warranty.
